PALM SPRINGS, CA – Flying Aviation Expo confirms hosting a keynote debate between two of general aviation’s most influential speakers and prominent influencers, Rod Machado and John King.
Both Rod and John have very different ideas about the utility and value of the Airman Certificate Standards (ACS), and each is a passionate advocate for their position. The first ever live debate will take place noon on Saturday, October 22 at the Palm Springs International Airport, moderated by Steve Pope, Editor-in-Chief of Flying Magazine.
For more than 40 years, John King and his wife, Martha, have delivered millions of courses to pilots in training. Through intimate video instruction, the Kings have educated more than half of the pilot community in the United States on the principles and fundamentals of flying. John and Martha became the first and only husband and wife duo to both hold every category and class of FAA pilot and instructor certificates. John and Martha’s school, King Schools, Inc., continue to transform pilot training through integration and development of multimedia training programs on various related subjects including aviation risk management.
Taking the other side of the stage, Rod Machado, a 43-year flight instructor, has taught millions the basics of flying via flight lessons, simulation and training materials. Since 1973, he has been teaching and speaking to pilots in the United States, Canada and Europe. Rod is a tireless pilot advocate, holding a degree in Aviation Science, along with a degree in Psychology. He started flying at age 16 and is ATP rated along with all airplane Flight Instructor ratings. He is a National Accident Prevention Counselor appointed by the FAA in Washington D. C. Rod is a columnist for AOPA Pilot and Flight Training magazines. A consummate educator, he has personally written seven pilot training handbooks, written and produced educational pilot videos and pilot eLearning courses.
This will be the highlighted event among many strong seminars and activities surrounding the Expo. Also adding to the list of things to do and pilots to see – 22-year-old Sammy Mason, one of the brightest new competitive aerobatic pilots, joins the communal fun for a special pancake breakfast on Saturday.
Jeff Herold, Scheyden President and Aviation Expo LLC Principal explains, “we have created some wonderful event packages to accommodate the pilots and aviation enthusiasts alike who want to enjoy 1, 2 or all 3 days at the show. We expect many to make it a long weekend and enjoy all of the attractions that Palm Springs has to offer. For those flying into Signature Flight Services, they will be taken directly to the show site after landing – only a few hundred yards away.” Also available; a VIP pass with special car or aircraft parking, plus free eyewear.
